How to measure your bay
Five minutes with a tape and you'll never have to do it again — we keep your spec on file.
What we need from you
The size of the screen, edge to edge. Not the size of the opening it hangs in.
If you’re replacing a screen, measure the old one. That’s the most reliable number you’ll get, and it’s already proven to fit your bay.
If you’re buying for a new enclosure, the screen you need depends on how you’re fixing it. A screen has to be pulled tight to work — with bungees, fixed poles, or cloth tabs — and each of those takes up a different amount of material between the screen’s edge and your frame. So the opening tells you where to start, not what to order.
Be confident about the size before you order. Every screen is cut to your measurements, so a screen sized wrong fits nobody else’s bay and can’t be re-cut. If you’re not sure, get in touch and we’ll talk it through — that conversation costs nothing and it’s a lot cheaper than a second screen.
Width
Edge to edge across the screen. If you’re measuring an old screen, measure the cloth itself — not including any bungees or hooks holding it up.
Height
Top to bottom of the screen, the same way. On a screen that’s been hanging a while, measure it under the tension it normally sits at rather than laid flat.
Two people, one tape
Anything over about 3m, get someone to hold the other end. A tape measure sagging across a 4m bay reads long, and long is the expensive direction.
